What Counts as a Dental Emergency?

If something feels wrong, it’s worth checking. But here are some of the more common problems we treat:

  • Sudden or severe toothache
  • Broken or cracked teeth
  • Swollen face or gums
  • Bleeding that won’t stop
  • Knocked out or loose teeth
  • Lost crowns or fillings
  • Signs of infection

If it’s stopping you from eating, sleeping or concentrating, you don’t need to suffer through it. Give us a call.

What Happens at Your Appointment

When you arrive, we’ll make you as comfortable as possible. Then we’ll take a look and talk you through what we find.

Here’s what usually happens:

  • We listen to what’s going on and ask a few questions
  • We check the problem tooth and surrounding area
  • If needed, we’ll take a small X-ray
  • We explain what’s causing the pain
  • We carry out treatment to ease the issue or stabilise things until a follow up

The goal is to reduce your pain and stop things getting worse. If we can fix it fully on the day, we will. If not, we’ll book you in for the next step as soon as possible.

Why Emergency Dental Care Matters

Pain is your body’s way of saying something isn’t right.

Leaving it too long can lead to infection, damage to other teeth or even the loss of a tooth that could have been saved.

Coming in early can:

  • Prevent long-term damage
  • Help you avoid more expensive treatment later
  • Reduce the risk of infection
  • Give you peace of mind
  • Get you back to eating, sleeping and feeling normal again

If you’re unsure whether it’s urgent, just ask. We’ll give you honest advice.

FAQs About Dental Emergency Treatment

Yes. You don’t need to be an existing patient. Call us and we’ll try to fit you in as soon as we can.

Keep the tooth clean and try not to touch the root. If possible, place it in milk and bring it with you to the appointment. Call us straight away.

Use over-the-counter pain relievers and apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek to reduce swelling and numb the pain.

We always try to offer same day emergency appointments. Call early in the day for the best chance of being seen quickly.

Costs vary depending on the problem and whether you are a private or NHS patient. We’ll explain everything clearly before starting any treatment.

If we’re closed, you can still leave us a message. For serious emergencies, you may need to contact NHS 111 for out-of-hours support.
